Description

Waveshare Motor Driver for micro:bit is a compact motor control expansion board that plugs directly into the micro:bit edge connector and gives the board the ability to drive 2 DC motors and 3 servos. It is built for robotics, STEM learning, and quick mechatronics prototyping where micro:bit needs a practical motor interface without complicated wiring.

This Waveshare driver board integrates a TB6612FNG motor driver, onboard 5V regulator with up to 3A output current, screw terminal and JST motor connection options, plus standard servo headers. With 6V to 12V VIN input, it can power motors directly from a battery pack or external supply while keeping the 3.3V logic aligned with the micro:bit platform.

Features

  • micro:bit edge connector for direct plug-in installation
  • 2 DC motor interfaces for compact robot and drive applications
  • 3 servo interfaces for basic motion control and mechanical actuation
  • TB6612FNG motor driver for reliable DC motor control
  • Integrated 5V regulator with up to 3A output current
  • 6V to 12V VIN input for convenient external motor power
  • Multiple connector options for different DC motor wiring styles
  • Official development resources including demo code, schematic, and micro:bit software references

FAQ

What can this board drive?

This board is designed to drive 2 DC motors and 3 servos from a micro:bit. It is a practical option for small mobile robots, mechanical demonstrations, and beginner robotics systems.

Does the package include the micro:bit board?

No. The official product information clearly notes that the micro:bit is not included, so you will need to prepare a compatible micro:bit board separately.

What is the difference between this board and the Waveshare Servo Driver for micro:bit?

Waveshare Motor Driver for micro:bit is built for projects that need both DC motor output and servo control. If your project focuses more on multi-servo control, you can also look at the related Waveshare Servo Driver for micro:bit.

Is there a simple breakout option for wiring sensors alongside motor projects?

Yes. If you want easier access to the micro:bit pins for mixed motor and sensor experiments, a related option is the Waveshare Edge Breakout for micro:bit.
